Review of Solenoid Valves for Irrigation
Irrigation solenoid valves are components that allow air flow to be blocked or diverted and are electrically controlled by a coil (solenoid) that applies a voltage that varies depending on the type (24V - 110V, etc.).
Solenoid valve or solenoid valve is a device that represents the ideal solution for various applications.
A solenoid valve is the combination of two basic functional parts:
§ A solenoid (electromagnet)
§ A valve body with one or more passages.
A solenoid valve is used to close or open a fluid passage in a circuit by means of electrical control.
Below we will show you some models of irrigation solenoid valves that you can find at The Garden Store .
Review of 4 solenoid valves for irrigation
24V solenoid valves:
1- SOLENOID VALVE 1" 24V 100HVF RAIN BIRD :

Rain Bird irrigation solenoid valve with 1-inch (F/F) threads and 24 VAC coil. Alternative to the 100-DV series. Normally closed (opens when energized).
Suitable for clean liquids (max. 43°C). Minimum differential pressure 1 bar (indirect operation), maximum pressure 10 bar. Robust glass-filled polypropylene housing with NBR seal. Manual operation possible. The flow rate can be adjusted manually by turning a knob.
Characteristics:
The Rain Bird irrigation solenoid valve features a glass-filled polypropylene body, 1-inch pipe threads (BSP F/F), and a 24 VAC (50/60 Hz) coil. Rain Bird specializes in irrigation systems and is known for its quality, reliability, and intelligent design.
The valve is normally closed (opens when electrically energized). This valve is particularly suitable for irrigation systems, but can also be used for other applications. Suitable for systems with an operating pressure of 1 to 10 bar and a maximum temperature of 43°C.
To operate properly, the valve requires a positive differential pressure of at least 1 bar. When the inlet pressure is lower, for example, in a gravity-fed system, this valve cannot be used. In this case, a (semi-)directly operated solenoid valve or an electric ball valve is recommended.
The coil is supplied with the valve. Mounting the coil is easy.
Irrigation solenoid valves are electrically controlled, as their name suggests. They open or close by means of an electric current through a solenoid (coil). While electrically energized, they consume energy. They open and close quickly. They are sensitive to dirt and can only be used with clean liquids or gases.
2- 3/4" 24V LFV LOW FLOW SOLENOID VALVE RAIN BIRD :

It is the only solenoid valve in the industry designed specifically for localized irrigation systems, making it the only solenoid valve that can operate with very low flow rates (45.4 to 1136 liters/hour).
Characteristics:
§ This valve has all the reliable features of Rain Bird DV solenoid valves, along with a unique diaphragm designed to allow particles to pass through the valve at extremely low flow rates, thus preventing leakage.
§ It allows the filter to be installed safely after the valve, as it allows particles to pass through.
§ Double gasket diaphragm only, with a ½" diameter diaphragm seat for perfect operation at low flow rates.
§ Double filtration at the membrane and solenoid seat level for maximum reliability.
§ External bleed screw to manually bleed the system and remove dirt during system installation and commissioning.
§ Manual opening without water leaks.
9V Solenoid Valves:
3- 3/4" 9V LFV LOW FLOW SOLENOID VALVE RAIN BIRD :

This valve has been specifically designed for micro-irrigation systems; it is the only valve that works reliably with dirt-laden water and low flow rates (45.4 to 1136 l/h).
Characteristics :
§ It features all the features of the reliable Rain Bird DV valves, plus a special diaphragm that allows dirt particles to pass through even at low flow rates. This reduces the risk of clogging.
§ The filter can be installed behind the valve.
§ Special "double blade" diaphragm with a ½" seat for unimpeded flow at low flow rates.
§ Two filters provide the greatest reliability.
§ A manual external relief can be used to clean dirt during installation and startup.
§ Manual opening without flushing of the drain water.
4- 1" 9V 100DV SOLENOID VALVE + 1" 2.8 BAR MESH FILTER:

- Filter and control units consist of all the components necessary for pressure regulation and filtration of a micro-irrigation system.
- The practical installation kits offer automatic control of an irrigation circuit when connected to an irrigation control unit (230 V or battery operated).
- Filter and control units are now also available with a pre-assembled pulse-controlled magnetic coil for operation with a battery-operated control unit.
Characteristics:
§ The kit contains a RBY pressure regulating valve and filter
§ Few parts, easy installation, reduced maintenance
§ Compact design, so more of these mounting kits fit in a valve box
§ High reliability with tried-and-tested DV valves, even at low performance; fewer threaded connections, meaning less susceptibility to leaks and therefore a longer service life.
At the garden store, you'll find a wide range of irrigation solenoid valves to suit your needs.
