How to install an irrigation diffuser or sprinkler?
With the sprinkler or diffuser connected to the main plumbing line, align the sprinkler you want to install with the ground and the end of the sprinkler. Be sure to use Teflon thread tape to wrap the threads on the male end of the riser before screwing on the sprinkler, creating a tight seal.
With the sprinkler connected, hold the sprinkler head where you want it to remain and begin filling in the dirt around it until the sprinkler is held firmly in place, with the top of the sprinkler flush with the top of the soil and the base of the grass. Make sure the sprinkler is perfectly level.
This means that whether the sprinkler is on flat ground or a sloping hillside, the sprinkler body is perpendicular to the ground.
Sprinklers : Once you've installed a new sprinkler, there are just a few more steps to take before the sprinkler is ready for full-time use. Using the appropriate adjustment tool for your brand of sprinkler, make sure the nozzle retaining screw is turned up and out of the way, allowing a new nozzle to be inserted. With the desired nozzle in hand, simply slide the nozzle onto the sprinkler and push it in until it is fully seated and flush with the rotor body.

Next, using the same tool as before, turn the retaining screw clockwise. This will turn the screw down and toward the front of the nozzle, where it will perform two important functions. First, the screw will retain the nozzle, keeping it in place and preventing water pressure from escaping. Second, the screw can be used to baffle the watering pattern. The further down the head the screw is inserted, the more baffled the stream will be.
Adjust the sprinkler by first finding the correct stop position. Sprinklers (except 360-degree models) have a rigid right side and an adjustable left side. This means you must rotate the entire sprinkler body to change the correct stop; however, the left-side stop point can be adjusted using the adjustment key. Simply insert the tool on top of the rotor into the hole with the corresponding +/- markings. Turn the key on top of the rotor and the arc will increase accordingly. (Typically, one turn equals a 90-degree increase or decrease in arc.) For ease of installation, it is recommended that the arc be established before connecting the rotors to the system.
Diffusers : These are aerosol-style sprinklers and are much simpler than sprinklers. All that's required is to clean the sprinkler head before starting the system.

Each spray nozzle is configured to spray a specific pattern. However, you cannot adjust the spray arc; you can adjust the total spray distance of the head by turning the screw on top of the spray head.
Spray heads should be checked occasionally to ensure the filter screen is not clogged. Simply unscrew the spray nozzle and lift the nozzle and screen out of the spray body. Rinse the screen and return it when clean.
Positioning nozzles on a slope
Special considerations must be taken if installing a nozzle on a slope. Be sure to tilt the nozzle head perpendicular to the slope. Gravity causes water sprayed on a slope to be distributed unevenly.
Make sure the angle of your head position is set perpendicular to the slope.
If you don't tilt the head perpendicularly, you'll hit sloped areas. The spray will throw water a greater distance when spraying from a sloped area. The diffuser will throw water a shorter distance when spraying on a sloped area.

** Note: Running pipes downward is not a good idea. Water is constantly moving downhill. Water pressure will be higher at the bottom and lower at the top. It's best to run pipes perpendicular to the slope.
